Yo! Happy Holidays 🙂
Hope you’re enjoying this time of the year. I’m currently bracing for single digit temps, 60 mph winds, and a few feet of snow.
No one ever said a white Christmas was easy.
Speaking of easy. It was easy to see that November sales were dominated by 2022 Panini Prizm WNBA.
In total 65% of the top 20 sales came from this new release. And they say the hobby is dead.
November sales were lead by a $2,025 sale of a 2011 Rittenhouse WNBA Maya Moore Holding Jersey Autograph PSA 10. This short printed variation is assumed to have a total run of just 33. This is the first public sale of the card in PSA 10 condition.
It remains a buyers market and total sales from the top 20 dipped from October and year over year. It’s not down as much as other parts of the card market, but November (and December) was a weaker month.
I chalk this up to the holidays, since I’ve seen similar downward price action in 19, 20, and 21. I’m not confident it remains this way for long, since the run up to the start of the league season usually lifts prices.
Proceed according to your own research.
You’d think no WNBA cards were made prior to 2020
I’m not hating on the new stuff. I’ve opened way too much myself (shhh).
It’s just that it’s amazing the prices collectors, investors, and flippers are willing to shell out for low numbered Panini Prizm WNBA cards. I say this as someone who has been shelling out for modern WNBA cards.
The prices these cards are pulling compared to much rarer, harder to find, Rittenhouse and earlier cards compared to their shiny counterparts is impressive.
Of course only time will tell how well this holds up, but my experience has been that anything gold or below has done a good job weathering the downward price pressures in the markets.
I’m not saying you need to go out on a gold rush, I’m only reminding you to the fact there are other cards to chase that you might still want in your case 20 years from now.
