Howdy! Bad news. I was wrong.

Last month you were told that peak WNBA card slabbing had subsided. I was wrong.

Output roared back in April, doubling from March lows to almost 700 slabs. The bulk of this output was ultra modern, but there were also large increases in the POP counts of the W25 PSA set registry cards thanks to at least one enterprising collector.

While select “older” WNBA cards saw large growth in POP count, the 2020 Panini Prizm WNBA set continues to drive the majority of the overall growth.

There are now over 7,300 2020 Prizm WNBA cards in PSA slabs.

Over 7,300 Prizm WNBA Cards in PSA slabs

This is simply a mind-boggling number.

Especially since two years ago there weren’t this many WNBA cards in total in PSA slabs.

It will be interesting to see how the market absorbs this amount of new inventory given there are more new slabs hitting the market than are being sold in public.

Here’s how the top WNBA sets landed.

PSA Registry Set Cards See Big Growth

As I mentioned above, a number of WNBA rookie cards on the PSA registry set saw large POP count increases.

Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Maya Moore, and Nneka Owgumike all saw their rookie cards rise over 30% from March, the biggest jumps since I began recording data over two years ago.

For the most part POP counts are still pretty low compared to other sports, but large increases in short periods of time typically end up driving down pricing as a result of increased supply.

It will be interesting to see during next months top eBay sales how the increases impacted the sales for said cards.
