Yo! I know. I am late. It’s the end of September and I’m just dropping the August WNBA Cards PSA POP Report. I appreciate your patience. Things have been busy on the home and card front (more on that in a few weeks).
August once again saw a steady flow of WNBA cards coming out in PSA slabs. Similar to July, over 800 new WNBA cards arrived back from graders, making it one of the higher volume months of the year.
There are now 22,2397 WNBA cards in PSA slabs. There were under 13,000 at the end of August 2021. This was once again lead by the ultra modern Panini sets, although it looks like folks have slowed down their Sabrina Ionescu base rookie submissions.
As if 2,000 of them was not enough. There’s now 2,182, almost triple the next most graded card.
With the Las Vegas Aces taking home the title a few weeks ago, look to see the pop count rise for the rookie cards of players such as A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, and Dearica Hamby over the next few months.
Ultra Modern. Ultra Modern. Ultra Modern.
C’mon people. There are more than three years of WNBA cards. Live a little and dip back in time to an era where production was lower and cards were simpler.
Plus it will make writing this section a heck of a lot easier!
All jokes aside, PSA submission volume continues to skew heavily towards the ultra modern sets, with only a couple of key rookie cards from earlier years of the league seeing noticeable bumps.
One has to wonder how well some of these non-rookie high numbered parallels in PSA slabs will hold up price-wise over time.
With bulk submissions back, I wouldn’t be shocked to POP counts rise further for these sets, but despite strong growth in sales, supply is greatly outpacing it.

Somebody Call ESPN. Rebecca Lobo Rookies Saw a Huge Jump!
The Top WNBA Rookie Cards in August saw their typical slow rise with the exception of the 1997 Pinnacle Inside WNBA Rebecca Lobo rookie card.
While not part of the PSA registry set, Rebecca is a familiar face on ESPN leading women’s basketball telecasts, so perhaps her fame is leading collectors to seek fortunes through her cards.
I digress. The 2002 Fleer Ultra WNBA Sue Bird rookie card saw a nice bump as result of her retirement, while 2000 Fleer Ultra Becky Hammon rookie card leapfrogged the 2004 Fleer Ultra WNBA Diana Taurasi for the 8th spot on the list.
